Here's the kicker: writer given the boot
Here's the lead from a Wall Street Journal story in today's paper on kicking in the NFL: "In 2006, Stefan Fatsis persuaded the Denver Broncos to allow him to join the team at its summer training camp as a placekicker, becoming the first writer to suit up for a National Football League camp since George Plimpton in 1963. In this excerpt from his new book, "A Few Seconds of Panic: A 5-Foot-8, 170-Pound, 43-Year-Old Sportswriter Plays in the NFL," he's called on to kick in front of the full team for the first time." For the rest of story, click here.
Thought I might be able to find a video clip of Stefan Fatsis kicking, but instead I found something better. Tom Dempsey's 63-yard field goal. It's just a 33-second clip, but it's awesome. Snap wasn't great and it barely clears the bar. It was a game-winner. Break out the goosebumps.
