Stuff found while looking for other stuff
Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Kenny "The Snake" Stabler (in mugshot at right) will take a leave of absence after a recent DUI arrest.
Gossip columnist Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the following sighting in Vegas: "At LAX (Luxor) on Friday: former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell "Slash" Stewart and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh."
LeCharles Bentley is still looking for work. After being released by the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: "Jonathan Feinsod, Bentley's agent, said there is 'a lot of interest' in the former Pro Bowl offensive lineman." You can never be sure what "a lot" means when an agent is speaking for his client. You gotta be rooting for Bentley, though, for all he has been through.
Pro Football Weekly reports that you should expect Matt Jones to be released after his arrest last week. PFW reports: "In the words of one team source we talked to, it would be 'shocking' to see him in a Jags uniform in 2008."
One word: Cornhole. The Chicago Tribune reports that over 600 tossers showed up at the Soldier Field Cornhole Classic.
